First trip to the Fatherland - Germany 26/08 to 02/09 1989

Our first ever trip to Germany, a three pronged attack on the Diesels of DB by myself (Poodle) Steve Thomas (Neath) & John "Zuzzy Hell" Sandham. The holder of the Kursbuch and therefore chief planner honours fell to Neath, even though he was only of tender years (but just old enough to drink - which made up for it).With the remit of as many diesel locos and new lines during daylight hours then the odd electric to get in place for the overnight.(New locos again denoted by #).

No boring tales of crossing the channel - an afternoon boat from Dover must have been taken as we were on the last departure from Ostend.

A great introduction into the many and varied diesels of DB at the time. The timetable worked like clockwork so all our planned moves made. I took a larger number of photo's than I would have for the same number of days if in the UK, not surprising as we had been looking forward to the trip for some time. We even managed to catch some Steam heat on the 212's out of Schweinfurt, something of a novelty for us!
